Following his wonder goal for England at the Maracanna, Brazil, Manchester United & England’s Wayne Rooney flew straight from Rio de Janeiro to take part in filming for his new App; to be launched in August this year.

Over two sun drenched days at the home of amateur football club Ryland’s FC in Warrington, Wayne and a number of the country’s best young academy players were put through their paces by renowned sports choreographer Andy Ansah; the former star of Dream Team and co-presenter on Wayne’s hit show Street Striker.

The app is being produced in partnership with ‘fivestar training’, an American sports brand famous for training the leading basketball players in their youth, including Michael Jordan, Lebron James of the Miami Heat and Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks.

Wayne has been chosen as fivestar’s lead global ambassador in football; to provide and perform training programmes for young footballers aspiring to be the best players they can be.

Nick Blatchford, President of fivestar explained “Soccer or Football as most of the world would know it is the most popular sport on the planet and at fivestar we want to give young boys and girls the ability to learn from one of the best in the world. We have, in conjunction with Wayne, devised a number of training drills, tests and ‘1 v 1 Challenges’ to improve all areas of their game… and even cooler their personal coach is none other than Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney. The App can be downloaded directly onto iPhones and iPads and all the programs, workouts and drills are organized in such a way that users can reap the benefits of world-class training, while learning what is required to reach Wayne’s level.  In addition to serious training programs and content, the app will feature a series of fun and engaging ‘1 v 1 Challenges’, which allow kids to take on Wayne directly and, even cooler, upload their videos and score on to a screen, showing both the kid and Wayne compete with each other”.

Wayne’s agent and business manager Paul Stretford was clearly excited by the project “We have been looking at the possibility to create an online training academy and community so football crazy kids all over the world can get direct access to train with a global superstar like Wayne. What you see today is the fruition of over two years hard work talking to different companies and individuals but once I met the guys at fivestar I knew they were our ideal partners. Wayne has never been afraid to put the hard graft in and also try and showcase football skills in a different and unique way as he did with Street Striker, and now with the fivestar App.”

Wayne commented “To be honest when I was young I would have loved something like this, I used to watch my heroes on the telly and have to try and remember what they did and go out and practice it. With the fivestar Rooney app you can take the film with you and play it over and over again until you get it right and when you do you can take me on in a one on one challenge and send me your film, now that’s pretty good”.

You’ll be able to catch Wayne in action; to take part in his training programmes, and even take him on, one-on-one, when the App is made available to download from the Apple store in August.

Stay tuned for more updates including a sneak preview of training drills, the fantastic promo film to be launched, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to win a one-on-one training session with Manchester United & England’s Wayne Rooney.  For more information on fivestar and to pre-register for the App, visit www.fivestartraining.com and follow fivestar @fivestarsoccer.
